Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is a Washington D.C.-based American TV journalist, anchor and commentator. Mitchell graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a degree from the department of English literature. Mitchell began her career with KYW Radio and TV as the Philadelphia reporter in 1967. In 1976, she joined the CBS-affiliate WDVM-TV located in Washington DC (then WTOP). She joined NBC News Washington two years later as general reporter. In 1981 she started reporting from the White House. In 1988 she was named head of the congressional reporters. She was named chief White House Correspondent and in 1994, she was named chief foreign affairs reporter for NBC News. Mitchell was a guest in the TV news program Meet the Press as a host and panelist. She served on an audience for the 1988 presidential debates featuring George Bush (then president) and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell got married to Alan Greenspan the former chairman of Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded numerous honors for her journalism achievements, such as her Goldsmith Career Award from John F. Kennedy School of Government in 2005. The award was presented to her by the Leonard Zeidenberg Award by Radio-Television News Directors Association in 2004. Mitchell was a reporter at the White House first for NBC News between 1981 and 1988, during Ronald Reagan's two terms as president. Her coverage included a variety of crucial stories such as the Iran-contra scandal, the tax reform and the budget, as well as the arms control. She traveled extensively with the president Reagan during summits together with Mikhail Gorbachev.
